Dedicated Mentors, Renowned Economists

The faculty are the heart of the Economics program, bringing together deep scholarly expertise, real-world industry perspectives, and an enduring commitment to student success. Through rigorous inquiry and engaging instruction, our professors create an intellectually vibrant learning environment that bridges economic theory with pressing global challenges. Inside the classroom, they challenge students to analyze complex systems, think critically about data, and evaluate the ethical dimensions of economic and public policy decisions.

Beyond coursework, our professors serve as dedicated mentors who actively cultivate leadership, research, and career development across a wide range of departmental initiatives:

  • Academic Competition Teams: Faculty advisors guide and train student teams for premier national competitions, including the Fed Challenge (Led by Professor Colman) and the Fiscal Challenge (Led by Professor Baruch), providing hands-on experience in monetary policy analysis and fiscal modeling.

  • Student Organizations & Community: Professors actively advise and support dynamic student-led groups, such as the Economics Society (Led by Professor Baruch) and Women in Economics (Led by Professor Shostya and Professor Dollar), helping organize networking sessions, professional panels, and alumni events.

  • Faculty-Organized Research Seminars: Through department-sponsored Brown Bag Seminars (Led by Professor Shostya and Professor Puig), upperclassmen gain the invaluable opportunity to present original research, receive constructive faculty feedback, and refine analytical arguments in a supportive, professional seminar setting.

  • Career & Graduate Mentorship: Leveraging extensive networks across New York City’s financial, public policy, and research institutions, faculty connect students with internships, postgraduate pathways, and collaborative research opportunities. This includes the Economic Student Mentorship Initiative (EMI). This student-directed alumni mentorship program matches students directly with an alumnus based on career goals and other points of personal and professional compatibility.
